PREVIEW THE BOOKLET HERE: [link] Lost In Space is the first LP from dezember.07, a French shoegaze/drone/progressive rock band. It is a concept album about three spacemen going on a mission, but everything doesnt go according to plan Lost In Space is a crazy project by Sydney Writer, who decided to translate a scenario into music, using only distorted guitar (and bass guitar) sounds. The whole CD has been recorded in 3 takes, 1 of 40 minutes per track, and was being live mastered and mixed by Sydney Writer, while he was performing. In this extreme conditions, the final shape is an 40 minutes track, cut in nine bits to create a more conventional CD. The style of music is a mix between the raw power of shoegaze, the composition complexity of progressive rock, the instrumentation and atmosphere of drone and the live feel of jazz improvisation, providing soundscapes you probably never heard before. It is perfect for daydreaming and let your mind go, and if you close your eyes you will soon see the spacemen evolving in their spaceship. Lost In Space features a 11 page booklet as well as alternate covers for the nine songs of the album. The main idea was to illustrate the music with rather abstract photography, trying with visual trickery to make you see spaceship commands in pictures of recording tables, pedals, etc. All the pictures are right from the camera, and have only been cropped. In the music and the illustrations, there are some obvious and less obvious cultural references. The album cover as well as the font used (Futura) are both a reference to Stanley Kubricks 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY title. The music itself has strong influences from early Porcupine Trees records as well as Mogwais soundscapes. The structure and composition are mainly inspired by Porcupine Tree and Boards of Canada, as well as Nine Inch Nails Ghosts album, while the effects used feature similarity with My Bloody Valentines and Sonic Youths unique way of perceiving sound. This project has taken me almost a year to finish, and while the music may not be to your taste, I can honestly say I am proud of the overall final result of this, in the whole conception of the album. I learnt a lot while producing this album, and I will be glad if you like it. I strongly advise you to give it an full listen in one time at least once, however if the genre isnt much of your taste, I still advise you to give a second listen to the third track, Earth By The Window, which is my personal favorite, as well as the ninth track. Feel free to give me your honest opinion about this, and to share it with anyone! The album is under Creative License Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike license. Comments
